Sam Ricketts Pre-Season Update

27 June 2019

Sam Ricketts spoke to the press after a week of pre-season training.

Town are close to completing their first week of pre-season. With plenty of new faces on and off the pitch, Sam Ricketts updated the press on how well everyone had settled in and what they had been focussing on in training.

"Training's been good," said Sam. "We've had a steady start, I'd say pre-season is a six-week process to get fit. Gone are the days where you kill the players within the first two weeks.

"It should be a gradual build-up of fitness and a gradual build-up of tactical information. All you are trying to do is.

"The player's attitude and commitment has been very good which is what I'd expect. Fitness levels are good but as I've said before I don't expect the players to come back and be ready to play a full match.

"It's a gradual process, the main thing is to get them as fit as we possibly can but also keep everyone fit as well we don't want anyone to have to miss time out through injury.

"All the staff have settled in really well. There's a really good spirit amongst the staff and the players which is really important.

"Andy Johnson has come in this week and it's like he's been here for years. He's hit the ground running and is very good at what he does. He's very comfortable in delivering sessions but has also got the experience having been there and done it for a number of seasons."
