Shrewsbury Town played the first match of their pre-season programme this morning taking on JD Welsh Premier League champions The New Saints.
It was Town’s first game so far while TNS have been back for a few weeks and played a number of pre-season games. The game was played over 90 minutes, broken down into 15 minute sections. Every available player got a run out with them split into two groups each getting 45 minutes on the pitch.
Shrewsbury Town manager Sam Ricketts was pleased to get the chance to put his players up against a good opposition.
“It was a good workout for the team and good to get all the available players involved”, said Sam.
“All these games are an important part of getting the players ready for the start of the season and to allow us to start to implement some of our ideas.
“TNS have been back for a few weeks and played a number of games already so it was good to see us do well against them.
“This has been our first week back at pre-season training and it’s been a good week.”
