ACADEMY: Town Take On Accrington

29 March 2019

Shrewsbury Town U18’s will be looking to secure two Youth Alliance League wins in a row on Saturday when they face Accrington Stanley at the Shrewsbury Sports Village.

Town last faced this week’s opponents in their final game of 2018, which saw the points shared after coming from behind twice to draw 2-2. Substitute Lifumpa Mwandwe scored the first equalising goal with 15 minutes to go; and after falling behind again it fell to Rhys Davies to score in the dying seconds of the game to ensure that Shrewsbury would come away with a point.

After defeating Rochdale on Tuesday, Professional Development Phase Coach Callum McKenzie knows that preparation will be key in ensuring another victory on Saturday.

He said: “We’ll be looking for a similar performance (than on Tuesday).

“We’ll be back in on Thursday and Friday putting a game plan in place for them and hopefully the lads are at it like they were on Tuesday.

“If they are, then we’ve got a great chance of winning the game.”

Shrewsbury have no fresh injury concerns coming into this game, so David Longwell and his staff will be spoilt for choice when they make their team selection.

So, if you’re not making the trip to Southend United to watch the first team in action, why not come down to the Shrewsbury Sports Village at 11am to watch some under 18 action for free.
