Jonathan Mitchell Pre Southend United

29 March 2019

Jonathan Mitchell previews Town's trip to Southend United's Roots Hall.

Shrewsbury Town are on the road again this weekend as the Shrews travel to Southend United.

Town will travel to Roots Hall with the aim of securing three points against the Shrimpers.

Jonathan Mitchell felt his team competed well against Portsmouth in spells and hopes to see that form carried into the weekend.

“I thought it was fairly even,” said Jonathan. “That sums the league up as well really.

“Even with the two different league positions there wasn’t much between the two teams.

“Especially quality wise. It’s all about taking your chances and what you do in each box.

“I think Portsmouth were a lot more clinical than we were. With Steve’s injury it wasn’t the way I wanted to get into the team.

“You always want to get there on merit and hopefully I can get into the team and continue.

“I am ready for it.  I have been working every day on the training pitch and I have to take the opportunity.”

Jonathan is expecting a tough test from the home side and admits the change of manager as Roots hall isn’t something his team will focus on

“I think we just have to focus on ourselves,” said the goalkeeper. “We don’t want to concentrate too much on other teams.

“It’s unfortunate when a manager gets sacked but we can’t look at other teams.

“If we keep a clean sheet we can’t lose games – that’s what it’s about for me. If we can go up and score at the other end it would be brilliant.

“I think we are going there full of confidence. They are another team who are around us.

“We will be scrapping for every point, as will other teams. We have to go there with confidence and know we can win the game.”
