Sam Ricketts Post Rochdale AFC

9 March 2019

Sam Ricketts reflects on Town's loss to Rochdale AFC.

Shrewsbury Town were unable to extend their unbeaten run this afternoon against Rochdale AFC.

Despite scoring a late, late goal, Town were unable to secure any points against the home side.

Sam Ricketts was disappointed with the result and feels his team can perform better.

“I am disappointed to be honest,” said Sam. “We didn’t play as well as we have been.

“We have conceded off two set pieces, which is bitterly disappointing. We came back and scored one and should have scored more.

“We had some good opportunities, especially in the second-half. I am just disappointed at losing the game.

“We are good enough to come here and win the game but we weren’t quite at our normal level today.

“Saying all that, we conceded off a set piece and their second goal was offside. We nearly drew the game with hitting the crossbar at the end.

“I thought we had scored to be honest. The keeper made a great save on the first one. Unfortunately the second one didn’t go in.

“It was one of those days where we weren’t quite at it but we still had enough to come away with something.”

Sam felt his team deserved something from the game but admits his team didn’t play to their usual levels.

“I am not hiding behind the fact that we weren’t great,” said Sam. “If we had played to our levels in recent weeks, we would have come away with something.

“Certain levels weren’t hit today and on another day we could have got something out of the game.

“We didn’t, so we have to analyse why and go again on Tuesday. We didn’t move the ball well enough.

“I don’t think we passed the ball around enough until later on in the game.  We allowed the home team to get a foothold in the game.”
