Sam Ricketts previews Town's Sky Bet League One fixture with Portsmouth.
Shrewsbury Town welcome Portsmouth to the Montgomery Waters Meadow for the next Sky Bet League One fixture this weekend.
Town will be looking to make it two consecutive wins with a victory over Kenny Jacketts’ Pompey.
Sam was pleased with his side’s grit and determination in the last fixture and hopes to see that carried over into the next tie.
“It was a very bity game against Wycombe due to weather as much as anything,” said Sam.
“There wasn’t much in it and not much quality on show really. The best thing was the players’ character and desire to make sure they finished the game strongly.
“It’s nice for us to be scoring an injury time goal to win the game for once – we have had plenty go against us.
“The most pleasing thing was that there was nothing in the game but the spirit that they showed was good.
“The result was a testament to the team really and testament to the togetherness here at the club.
“If everyone isn’t pulling in that same direction, you don’t get that reaction right up into injury time.
“We got one goal but didn’t rest on that. We wanted to go and get another one and it was pleasing that we did that.”
Sam is expecting a tough test from the visitors but hopes to see his team secure another three points.
“They are a good side and are well organised,” said the Town manager. “They have some good players with pace and power.
“A month ago people were saying they were going to walk away with the title.
“They have won their last couple, so they will be a hard team to play against, but we will be ready.
“We will try to nullify their threats and impose ourselves on them – we want to win the game.
“I know Kenny better than some, but it doesn’t mean I know exactly he’s going to do.
“Football keeps evolving and changing, but what I do know about his sides are they are well organised and well structured – it will be a tough game.”
