Sam Ricketts Pre Southend United

Sam Ricketts previews Town's trip to Southend United.

Shrewsbury Town are on the road again this weekend and next take on Southend United.

Sam Ricketts and his team will travel to Roots Hall with the aim of securing three points.

Sam has been pleased with recent performances and hopes to see that continued against the Shrimpers after a good week of training.

“Training has been good,” said Sam. “We have tried to keep the intensity high. That’s what we tried to bring to the game on Saturday.

“We wanted to get that determination and general pressure really and we wanted to keep that high.

“It another opportunity for us away from home. It’s a big game for us and we have to make sure we are ready for the challenges that we may face.

“We have to try and match the performance from that game, and the more we can do that the better chance we have.

“The first half-an-hour was good and no one would have complained if we had been up by two goals.

“I don’t think you’d have been able to say which team are at what end of the table.”

Sam is expecting a tough test from the home side and feels the managerial situation could affect the game.

“I think it does change things,” said Town’s manager. “It can lift spirits but from what I am hearing, all the players liked him.

“Sometimes you change managers because the players haven’t or don’t buy into the managers ideas.

“That hasn’t been the case there. I am hearing that all the players really liked Chris and liked his ideas – unfortunately they just didn’t get the results.

“Clubs panic at this time of the year. I don’t always think it’s the right decision – only time will tell.”
