Shaun Whalley Pre Portsmouth

22 March 2019

Shaun Whalley previews Town's Sky Bet League One clash with Portsmouth.

Shrewsbury Town welcome Portsmouth to the Montgomery Waters Meadow for the next Sky Bet League One fixture this weekend.

Town will be looking to make it two consecutive wins with a win over Kenny Jacketts’ Pompey.

Shaun Whalley was pleased his side managed to secure a win last time out and hopes to achieve the same against Portsmouth.

“It was a good three points for us,” said the midfielder. “Wycombe are down there as well, so it was good to get the three points.

“I thought they had a couple of chances, I had a good chance in the first-half – where I probably should have done better.

“On the pitch it felt fairly even, but we kept fighting until the final whistle and we got our rewards.

“It was a great three points for us in the end. There is only two points between 12th and us.

“I know there is only one point between us and the relegation zone, so it is very tight down there.

“We just need to keep getting positive results and if we do, we will get out of it.”

Shaun is expecting a tough test from Pompey but feels his team have more than enough to win the game.

“It will be really tough I think,” said Shaun. “They have got quality all over the pitch.

“It’s going to be a real tough game for us, but we will give it our best and see what we can do.

“The league is very tight – from top to bottom in terms of quality, but they are up there for a reason.

“They are a good team, so we wont be taking them lightly – that’s for sure.

“We just need to take it how it comes on Saturday and see where that takes us.”
