Penalty joy for Town to lift the Shropshire Senior Cup

Town looked bright from the kick-off and were moving the ball around quickly to try and get at AFC Telford.  The first good chance came for on Town on 3 minutes when the ball found Jermaine Turner in space in the edge of the box, he curled in a decent shot but Acton in the Telford goal was there to collect.

Telford were trying to get the ball forward quickly to the experienced front line of Barnes-Homer and Dinanga, but the young Town defence was doing its job well during the early exchanges.

Town had a good chance on 7 minutes when the ball came to Archie Elmore just inside the Telford half, he got the ball under control and powered forward, he then hit a decent long-range effort that zipped just wide of the Telford post.

Moments later first year scholar Elmore went one better and gave Town the lead, the ball came to him the Telford box and he found the space to finish well from a tight angle to make it 1-0 to Town on 10 minutes.

AFC Telford had a good chance on the 15 minute mark when Dawson delivered a free-kick to the back post, it was headed back into the area and turned towards the goal but Luke Ward was in the right place on the line to clear the ball clear of danger.

Telford were back on level terms on 25 minutes after Marcus Dinanga went to ground in the Town box under the challenge of James Rowland, ref Sarginson pointed straight to the spot.  It was Dinanga who placed the ball and he made boo mistake striking a low shot past Gregory to make it 1-1.

Telford had another good chance after the 30 minute mark when Dinaga’s pace put him away down the left, he cut back inside in to the box, went past his marker before firing in a shot but was denied by the woodwork.

The experience in the Telford side was beginning to show and when Dinanga got in behind the Town defence it looked dangerous, but Tom Davies was covering well and came across nicking the ball away at the vital moment to deny Dinanga a clear run in on goal.

A Telford ball in behind the Town defence saw Cameron Gregory come out to head clear, the ball dropped to Dawson who tried his luck but Gregory was down quickly to block, big shouts from AFC Telford that Gregory was out of his box but ref Sarginson was on the spot and saw nothing amiss.

Town were continuing to press well and play the game in the Telford half, the ball was played out wide to find Mwandwe out on the left, he fired a good looking ball across the face of goal but Acton is there to collect.

There was a late chance for Telford before the break after the ball was crossed from the left, it found Barnes-Homer is front of goal, he got his header in but Gregory is there with a safe pair of hands to see the game remain level at the break.

Half-time: 1-1

Town started the second half brightly and created a half chance early on, good pressing and the ball was with Mwandwe, he played it to Elmore who then played to Turner in the box, he turned and shoot but it's blocked and Telford managed to clear their lines.

On 52 minutes there was a good break from Town with the ball played to Mwandwe, his pace saw him drive down the pitch with Turner to his right, he played the ball to put Turner in on goal, he took a touch and then shoot but it was blocked.

A free-kick for Telford just outside the Town box looked dangerous, Dawson took the kick and drove in a low shot but the Town wall did its job blocking the shot and then clearing the danger.

Another free-kick for Telford, this time the ball is whipped in behind the Town defence and drops in no mans land, a number of Telford bodies there but Gregory gets in and turns the ball behind for a corner.

There was a good chance for Telford on 66 minutes when they move the ball around the Town box quickly, it dropped to Dinanga at the backpost but he put the ball the wrong side of the post.

David Longwell made the first change for Town on 67 and 68 minutes with Jacob Bell coming on to replace Zac Hartley and Jacob Bell coming on to replace Zac Hartley.

Town were pressing well, first Elmore found the space in the Telford box to get a shot off, the rebound dropped to Mwandwe who turned and fired in a low shot but Acton is there to save.

The ball came inside and found Jamaine Turner in space 30 yards from goal, he fired in a superb looking drive but Acton was equal to it with an acrobatic tip over the bar to deny a spectacular goal.

Town were looking to hit Telford with a quick attack and the ball was with Jamaine Turner out on the right, he looked to use his pace to get away and drive downfield but Liam Walton grabbed hold of his shirt and wouldn't let go, free-kick for Town and a booking for the Telford man.

There was a good chance for Town on 86 minutes to grab a second late on after the ball found Elmore in the Telford box, he turned his marker once, then again before firing in a shot but a slight deflection took the ball wide of the goal.

The ball found Elmore on the halfway line, he looked to gets away and drive for goal but was held back by a couple of Bucks players, free-kick to Town.

And that was the last action of the 90 minutes and the game was going to penalties.  In the end it was Town who held their nerve with Cameraon Gregory making the important save from Liam Walton after Lifumpa Mwandwe had given Town the advantage.
