David Longwell Looks To Pre-season

7 May 2019

Shrewsbury Town’s academy will return for pre-season in July, as Town’s youngsters will continue their journey towards the first-team.

Town’s Academy Manager, David Longwell, is looking forward to getting back into action with the Shrews prospects.

“It’s an exciting time with these scholars coming in,” said David. “The academy will be back in May and the under-18’s will be back in June.

“They will all go through their fitness testing. They all have off-season programmes. If they are reading this you must make sure you are doing the work.

“They will go through the fitness testing and then go into pre-season. We will take them to Scotland – nothing to do with me. It was already booked with Callum before I got here.

“They go there towards the back of July. They will train for around a month and then go on a pre-season trip to Edinburgh

“We will be playing Hearts, Hibbs and Newcastle. It will be good for them with a good level of games.

“It will help with team bonding and give them a good basis for the season. We will be changing the philosophy and the style of play.

“This will give us a real good chance to nail down what we really want. We want to really make sure they understand the commitment and discipline involved.”
