Sam Ricketts Pre Walsall

2 May 2019

Sam Ricketts previews Town's final game of the season.

Shrewsbury Town face Walsall in the final game of the Sky Bet League One Season.

Town will welcome the Saddlers to the Montgomery Waters Meadow as they look to fight for survival.

Sam Ricketts feels the mood around the camp has been positive ahead of the local derby.

“Preparation has been different because of the result last week,” said Town’s manager. “We have tried to freshen up the team as much as we could.

“We wanted to make sure we still have that intensity in the game as we gear up to face Walsall.

“There are a few bodies who have recovered and a few who are struggling a little bit.

“At times the players have literally put their bodies on the line. It’s not surprising that they have given everything they could.

“They have given everything they could physically to ensure that we got the results we needed.

“The atmosphere at the game will be great and the attendance will be high for this one – it will be a great game to play in.

“The team have worked really hard to be able to go into the game in the position that we are.

“It’s a chance to put in a good performance and get that win that we all really want.”

Sam is expecting a tough test from the visitors but wants his side to end the season on a high.

“We still want to finish this season with a win,” said Sam. “It’s another chance to get another three points.

“We have the potential to finish as high as 13th or thereabouts. There is a lot riding on this game for us – we want to finish the season strongly.

“Walsall will be coming here to win the game. They haven’t got anything to lose, so they will come and try to score goals.

“I am expecting a high tempo game. In all fairness they do try to move the ball and not just play direct.

“It could be an open game but we need to make sure we get control. The lads are ready and they all want to play.”
