Town take the points home from trip to Port Vale
A resolute young Shrews side saw of Port Vale 3-1 on a wet afternoon in Staffordshire.
Goals from Ethan O’Toole, Edan Sears and Tom Bloxom wrapped up the U-18’s first away win of the season.
The Shrews fell behind in the first half and showed their determination to get themselves level before the break.
Nigel Aris found space down the right-wing and used his pace to beat the defender, he fired a low inviting cross into the box which O’Toole slid onto the end of, burying it past the Vale keeper on 41 minutes.
After Wednesday evenings FA Cup win the squad was rotated and included four U-16’s and several U-18’s who haven’t played as many minutes this season and everybody impressed.
Archie Elmore came on as a second-half substitute and almost scored with his first touch of the ball. He picked up a long ball and out-ran two defenders, but his shot struck the post.
Elmore was involved in the second goal when his shot from 20-yards out was saved by the keeper, the rebound fell to fellow substitute Bloxom who fired home on 76 minutes.
The Shrews guaranteed the win on 89 minutes when Tibbs whipped a delightful freekick into the box and Sears rose highest to get on the end of it and nod it into the bottom left corner.
Overall, it was a fantastic performance and an excellent way to secure the U-18’s first away win of the season. One of the most pleasing aspects of the game were the performances from U-16’s playing in the match.
The U-18’s next fixture is on Tuesday the 5th of November away at Morecambe.
