Sam Ricketts Post Bradford City

19 November 2019

Sam Ricketts reflects on Town's well earned victory that sees them march on into the second round.

A goal in the 65th minute from Dave Edwards proved the difference between the two sides as Town stood resolute as ever in defence.

Sam spoke to Shrewsweb shortly after the final whistle to give his initial reaction to the game.

“I didn’t think we were particularly great tonight, but we still win the game, we progress through to the next round which is really, really pleasing.

“I say we weren’t great but we were still resolute and still hard to score against, Joe Murphy made a great save in the second half apart from dealing with a few crosses he had little to do, we defended really well which gives us a base in every game.

“It’s a great sign that we can win that game without being in top form."

Sam was pleased to see Dave Edwards back on the score sheet.

“Dave Edwards has made a career on arriving in the box, it was a great cross by Donald Love initially, the guy came out to him to try and shut him down, he didn’t try to beat him, he just shifted the ball over a couple of yards and whipped it in to an unbelievable area and Dave arrives and does what he does well and puts it in the bottom corner.

“Dave is finding his feet, it’s not a coincidence that he’s physically feeling the best he’s been since he’s come back to the club and the goals are starting to roll in for him and the team as well.”

Sam was pleased with how his side saw out the game in the final minutes.

“I think in any game when 5 minutes goes up in any game, similar to the Peterborough game I think it just lifts the home fans and the players as well so we had a few hairy moments but no real saves to make.”

Sam is hoping to create another memorable cup run.

“The beauty of the FA Cup is no one knows where it’s going to take you, if you can keep getting through the rounds you can end up anywhere. We had a great time last year and we want to do the same this year.”

Town face Mansfield Town at home in the next round in a fortnight.
