ACADEMY: Callum McKenzie Post Fleetwood Town

30 September 2019

CALLUM McKenzie has said that the Shrewsbury U-18’s ‘can’t over analyse every defeat’ after their narrow loss to Fleetwood Town.

The young shrews went down 1-0 in a close game that could have gone either way, McKenzie said; “It was a tight game with very few chances. It was probably always going to be a set piece, a mistake or a piece of individual brilliance that would decide the game.

“We knew it would be a tough game, we did our analysis and they are a good side, but we are a good side. Unfortunately, it is them who have taken advantage of us not doing our jobs at a corner and it’s about fine margins”.

Speaking on the team’s performance, he said; “I thought it was a workman like resolute display.

“We haven’t played as well as we could have and have been playing, we didn’t have enough variety, but we had good shape and limited them to a few chances. We will analyse the game with a clear mind we’ve probably had more chances, but we can’t over analyse every defeat”.

There were many changes to the team after a busy run of fixtures including a large number of the squad being involved in the Shropshire Senior Cup defeat on Tuesday. McKenzie said; “We’ve got big numbers in the squad and good players if we rotate it doesn’t mean we lose quality.

“The lads who came in today they did ok, I’m not sure if ok is what we are looking for, but everyone could have done better”.

Up next for the U-18’s they are in Cup action on Tuesday against Huddersfield before having a week off without a game next Saturday.
