ACADEMY: Callum McKenzie Post Port Vale

16 September 2019

CALLUM McKenzie has said that his side are starting to reap the rewards of their hard work after their 5-0 win over Port Vale.

He said; “We backed up what we did last week and that was the target for us. We got plenty of goals and I think that has been one of our issues so far this season.

“It is good to see the boy’s attitude in training and in the game today, they are starting to get the rewards for that”.

Charlie Caton scored a hattrick during the impressive victory and McKenzie praised his efforts and the competition that has been created within the team. He said; “Charlie was excellent, he was difficult to play against.

“You can’t do much more than score a hattrick, but he also did a lot of the unselfish work, he is coming out of his shell and settling into the group.

“He and Archie have good competition and they are pushing each other to be better and they are both reaping the benefits of that”.

Victory over Port Vale ensured that the young shrews got their first consecutive wins of the season, but McKenzie wants to make sure that his side doesn’t get carried away, he said; “Now we look forward to next week, we don’t want to get complacent.

“I know it is an old saying but we really are taking every game as it comes”.

Next up for the Shrews they face Oldham, with the side yet to win away from home, Mckenzie said; “We have to get a result away now. This week we are going to roll our sleeves up and get prepared, hopefully, we can back it up”.
