Lang Joins On Loan From Latics

2 September 2019

Shrewsbury Town are pleased to announce the signing of Callum Lang on a season-long loan from Wigan Athletic

Town are pleased to announce that they have strengthened their Forward department with the signing of talented, young striker, Callum Lang.

Having recently put pen to paper on a three-year contract extension with his parent club, Lang joins the club with plenty of football league experience having spent a season at Oldham and Morecambe despite only being 20 years old.

Callum spoke to Shrewsweb shortly after signing for Town and expressed how happy he was to sort the move for the upcoming season.

"I'm excited to be here," said Callum. "The main thing for me was to get out and play games, I just want to get started straight away and score some goals.

"The first thing I'm concentrating on is playing well. I think I can do well in this league and score some goals, so I want to start doing that as soon as possible.

"I spoke to Tyrese who was here last year, he really enjoyed it. I spoke to him on the phone and he was telling me it would be a really good club for me and the club was great for him.

"I also spoke to the manager the other day and I think the club is going in the right direction so I wanted to get on board straight away.

"He's liked the way I've played over the last two years so he wants me to come and bring that energy into the team, I think that's a strong part of my game is the energy I can bring. I want to work hard for gaffer he's a nice guy and sold the club to me.

"I played with Josh for a while at Wigan, he's a good lad as well and I've been told it's a really good group as well so I can't wait to meet everyone."

Town's game on Saturday has been postponed which allows Callum an extra week to get familiar with his surroundings and new teammates.

"I think it's good to get in and have a good bit of training with the lads before my first game so it will be nice to meet them and have a full week of training before the first game."

Lang spoke about how much he had already benefited from previous loan moves at Morecambe and Oldham.

"My two loans have been massive for me, last season I had a good bond with the club and the fans, I got on well with everyone and it was a special time for me, I had moments I'll never forget there. Hopefully, I can do the same here, last year I had a lot of confidence, I was enjoying my football and trying new things every week so I want to do the same here, enjoy my football and hopefully have some really good moments."
