Steve Morison Pre Southend

17 September 2019

Steve Morison talks to Shrewsweb about this evening’s fixture on home soil against Southend United.

Reflecting on Saturday’s draw Steve said; “I think it was a game of two halves, they were better first half and we were better second half. At the end, we were frustrated because we had the opportunities to win the game. But it was a positive second-half performance.”

Town’s squad is now bigger, better and stronger with many new faces coming in through this summer’s transfer window. “Competition for places which make people perform better, but it is a big squad now and the manager is going to have lots of decisions to make once everyone’s back fit.”

With three games in seven days, Town’s squad depth will come in handy as it will allow players more game time and those that need to rest, will be rested. It will also give Sam to allow some of his youth players to be part of the squad.

“There’s big numbers in certain areas at the minute and not in other areas so we’ll just have to see what the manager decides to do. But ultimately, it’s about getting the result on the pitch so whoever goes out there and plays, that’s all that really matters.” Steve said.

Southend are currently without a manager; however, they secured a strong point against Fleetwood at the weekend after scoring a late goal.

“They’ve got everything to gain haven’t they because they haven’t won a game and it was a surprise to see them score three goals against Fleetwood at the weekend but they’re looking to try and build something as they hang on to the fact they scored three goals. I doubt there will be a manager in place by tomorrow.”

Town will be looking to secure all three points as they return to Montgomery Waters Meadow after a long few weeks from playing at home. The fans and the atmosphere are something that will get behind Town and push them for the three points.

“Going into a game like that is a different type of pressure and something you will have to build yourself. At the game tomorrow night there will be a lack of atmosphere as we will be expected to turn up and win, so that’s what people will be waiting for. It’s something we have to create within ourselves, we have to create an atmosphere by performing well and if we do that, I’m sure the result will go our way.”
