Marlon Fossey answered questions from the media for the first time today following his season-long loan from Fulham. The young full-back explained why Shrewsbury is the best move for him at this stage of his career.
On his first impressions of the club and why he chose Shrewsbury.
“I think the main thought today is a sense of relief, I came to the conclusion over the break that to get my game to the next level I will probably need a loan.
“The fact that I’ve hopefully found a loan to get some good minutes in is a relief.
“It’s a really nice set up here, you’ve got a nice gym, the lads have welcomed me with open arms so I’m just excited to get going with them.
“I’ve been deprived of football over the last few years. There’s only so much you can gain from training, I could have played a lot of U23s this season with Fulham but to take my game to the next level I needed this move where there’s a lot more on the line with games and I think I can get that at Shrewsbury.”
On what sealed the deal for his loan move.
“I think it was mainly the manager and the ambition he has for this club. I’m an ambitious guy myself so the prospect of working with people who have a similar mindset to you is hard to turn down.
“From what I’ve seen and what I’ve heard Shrewsbury have a good record of improving loan players whilst they are here so that sealed the deal for me for sure.
On how he would describe himself as a player.
“I’d probably put myself in the modern-day full-back category, I love to get forward, I love to attack, I love to get on the ball but just as equally I love to defend and put my body on the line on both sides of the pitch this year.
