Steve Cotterill post Lincoln City

8 December 2020

Steve Cotterill reflects on Town's loss to Lincoln City in the Papa John's Trophy.

Shrewsbury Town's Papa John's Trophy came to an end with Salop losing out to Sky Bet League One high-flyers Lincoln City.

Town were unable to prevent the away side from taking home a 4-1 win as they earn a spot in the next round of the competition.

Town Manager Steve Cotterill was disappointed with the result but felt he needed to use to opportunity to evaluate his squad.

On the game:

"I never want to get beat in any game. You could tell that a few of the lads are a bit behind. This was an opportunity to see the boys that I haven't seen yet.

"We did some work yesterday and some of that came out today. I needed to have a look at a few of the lads today and this was going to be my only opportunity. Even if I had the opportunity again, I would still have a look at these lads.

"Some lads impressed and some didn't. Those lads haven't played a lot of football. It showed me where the squad is. We didn't play very well at all in the first half - we never got going.

"We were the brighter team at 2-1. They scored their goal against the run of play and I saw our hearts sink a little bit. It's a big pitch out there to get around when you haven't played many games."
