Steve Cotterill reflects on Town's 2-2 draw with Accrington Stanley.
Shrewsbury Town earned a point at Montgomery Waters Meadow after a 2-2 draw with Accrington Stanley.
Aaron Pierre and Shaun Whalley were the two Salopians on hand to ensure Town took a point from the game as Salop netted in each half.
Town’s Manager Steve Cotterill was pleased with aspects of his team’s performance and hopes to see a continuation in the upcoming games.
On the result:
“I am really proud of the performance. They could have dropped their heads when the goal went against them. In the first half, we were a little bit tentative and a little bit nervous – that’s expected.
“To turn the performance around like they did shouldn’t be underestimated. We went from a nervous team to a team that wants to do well and wants to please. We were by far the better team in the second half. It was an excellent finish from Shaun. I didn’t know he had that in his locker but it was a great finish.
“From where I was, it looked like their penalty was correct. We were so anxious to clear our box and compete for every ball. I think there is plenty to be pleased about looking forward here."
On the fans return:
“I want them to enjoy their day and their time here. I want to thank them for their support tonight. I know at the end they would have been disappointed but I think they will remember some really encouraging moments from tonight.”
