Conor McAleny post Rochdale

1 February 2020

Conor McAleny reflects on Town's narrow away loss to Rochdale.

Shrewsbury Town’s trip to Rochdale ended in disappointment as the home side secured all three points.

A late goal from the home side was the difference between the two sides as Tyler Smith notched for The Dale in the 88th minute.

Conor McAleny feels Town deserved more from the game but was left frustrated with Town's missed chances. He said: "I thought we knocked the ball around pretty well but goals decide games. Our lads at the back did pretty well and were unlucky with the goal. It's just one of those days. If we play like that every week, I'm sure we will score more goals.

"I thought we played some good stuff at times but just couldn't score - me included. Ultimately, goals decide games and we just didn't get that goal that I thought we deserved. They nicked one at the end, which is very frustrating. I thought we deserved the win, they only really had two chances."

Despite the loss, Conor has enjoyed his short time with Town and is looking forward to the rest of the season. He said: "I trained with the lads yesterday. It's a great dressing room and the lads have welcomed me.

"I'm glad I was put straight in. I feel like I'm going to settle in well. I'm very excited and we have three months now to kick on. I will take it game by game and hopefully win as many as possible.

"Hopefully I can chip in with some goals and assists. I feel good and I feel fit. We didn't get the win today, but I am looking forward to the rest of the season."

"The team has good offensive options and it's healthy when there is competition - it keeps the lads on their toes. I want to help Shrewsbury win games."
