Sam Ricketts post Tranmere Rovers

25 February 2020

Sam Ricketts reflects on Town's loss to Tranmere Rovers.

Shrewsbury Town were unable to register consecutive wins this evening as the Shrews lost out to Tranmere Rovers.

Despite battling back from two goals down, the away side managed to notch a winner late on in injury time to secure the win.

Town Manager Sam Ricketts was disappointed with the result and notes Salop should have done more to prevent the away side’s early goals.

“We are disappointed at losing the game,” said Sam. “I am really annoyed and disappointed at being two goals down after starting ok. They had two attacks and we were two goals down - you can’t do that.

“You can’t give teams something to hang on to. We made a few changes at half-time and within 15 minutes the team were back in the game - credit to them. We had some really good chances in the last half-an-hour to get that third goal.

“The sucker punch at the end left us all disappointed. It came down to who got that third goal. It was there for us to get it but we got caught with a real sucker punch.

“Corey did well for them and started the game well. Kane got a hang of him and really prevented him from doing an awful lot but he just got caught. It was a quick clearance and we could have defended it a little bit better.

“We are disappointed that after all the hard work, we come away with nothing - the game was there for us. Langy performed well and we were delighted for him to get that goal today and the chances were there to get that third goal. A couple of moves we were very, very good but it was just that final shot that was missing.”
