Dave Edwards post Liverpool

27 January 2020

Dave Edwards reflects on Town's 2-2 draw with Liverpool.

Shrewsbury Town upset all the odds last evening at the Montgomery Waters Meadow by holding Liverpool Football Club to a 2-2 draw.

Sam Ricketts’ men battled back from two goals down in the fourth-round Emirates FA Cup fixture against Jurgen Klopp’s men to force a replay at Anfield.

Dave Edwards is no stranger to causing Liverpool problems in the competition, having knocked out Liverpool with Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2017.

Town’s number four was delighted to have contributed to another upset against The Reds and is looking forward to the replay in Liverpool. He said: “It was a proper FA Cup tie. The magic of it - I believe - is still fully there.

“I hear people de-value it all the time but as a kid growing up watching it, it was such a big deal. It’s huge for us as players even just watching it, to be involved in a game like that was special.

“You don’t get games like last night in the league: end to end, both teams going all out for it. It was magical. For the fans, for them to see us get a result against a huge team in Liverpool makes it extra special. It will be a game they will remember for the rest of their lives.

“Jason is a real top footballer, he scored a good goal at Fleetwood last week and then to come on and make the impact he did was very, very special - he’s a natural finisher and knows where the goal is.

“We needed him yesterday. I’m happy for him because I know how hard he’s worked. He’s always in the gym after training working. He deserves all the credit he’s getting. As the season goes on, he will be very important for us.”
