Sam Ricketts pre Rochdale

Sam Ricketts previews Town's trip to the Crown Oil Arena.

Shrewsbury Town are on the road again this weekend as Salop take on Rochdale at the Crown Oil Arena.

Town will be looking for a return to winning ways after losing out away from home against Gillingham in the last Sky Bet League One fixture.

Sam is expecting a tough test from the home side but hopes Town secure all three points against The Dale. He said: “Rochdale are a team who really like to pass the ball and control games. We will need to be as prepared for that as we can.

“The quick turn-around is difficult but we will do some training today and be as prepared as we can. They have a way of playing and have been doing it all season.

“They’ve had some very positive results playing the way they play. We will have to be careful and very respectful of what they will try and do. We want to get back into winning ways as soon as possible - this game is another chance.

“It will be a difficult game because we are playing so many games so close together. We play a game, we have a day to recover and we travelling all the time - we will be as ready as we can be.

“The players are fine with the schedule, we just don’t have as much time to prepare in as much detail as you would like. We have this busy schedule because we have been successful - we are enjoying the challenge and embracing it.”

Sam is pleased Town have strong squad depth and notes all of the Salop players will be needed over the course of the season. He said: “We have a really good squad full of players who are competing for positions. Every time they take the field of play, they need to be ready.

“Every player has to play well in order to stay in the team. We have no fresh injury concerns, which is good. Fitness-wise they are fine. It’s more about getting as much recovery as possible after a late night.

“We are training closer to Rochdale which means the players can have a later start. We travel to where we stay and train there, it makes it a shorter day so we can recover well.”
