Sam Ricketts post Oxford United

7 March 2020

Sam Ricketts reflects on Town's 2-3 loss to Oxford United.

Shrewsbury Town were unable to secure consecutive wins as Oxford United ran out 2-3 winners over the Shrews.

Despite registering two goals against the U’s, 10-men Town were unable to hold on to secure all three points.

Sam Ricketts was disappointed with the result but was pleased with the contribution from his offensive players and felt Town deserved more from the game.

“We outlined to the players how we want to play and what we wanted to do and they really took the game to Oxford,” said Sam. “We were deservedly two up and it could have been more. We created a lot of chances and looked threatening.

“Jase and Dan were outstanding and Langy got us two up. We all thought here we go, there are more goals in this game for us. I was really pleased for Langy to get a goal. The game then got completely spun on its head.

“Oxford are one of the best sides in the league so we knew we would be under the cosh. We tired to sure the game up and we did for large parts but it’s very hard when you’re down to 10 men.

“The first goal was a disappointing one to give away, the second one was a fabulous strike and the third was disappointing. We soaked up so much pressure and it got to a point where their manager was shouting he would be happy with a point.

“We had one or two opportunities on the break, Dan Udoh had a chance and a couple of other times we could have tested them to get that third goal.”
