Sam Ricketts pre Coventry City

Sam Ricketts previews Town's Sky Bet League One fixture with Coventry City.

Shrewsbury Town are back on the road this weekend, as Sam Ricketts’ men take on Coventry City at St. Andrews in the latest Sky Bet League One fixture.

Town will be searching for a return to winning ways against the league leaders after losing out to Oxford United last time out.

Town Manager Sam Ricketts is pleased his Shrews have had another full week on the training pitch and hopes to see the benefit come game-day.

“The weather has allowed us to train this week which makes a change,” said Sam. “Having that training time aides recovery going into the game. The training time is vital in getting that sharpness and detail over to the players.

“I think you can see the result of more training time in our recent performances. In the last game, up until the sending off, I thought we were excellent and had a number of good opportunities.

“Having a full week to prepare is vital. Coventry are a good side and have done very well in the last 14 games or so. They are deservedly where they are in the league and are playing really good football.

“We lost Ryan Giles to them and it says something when he hasn’t been able to get too much game time – it shows you what kind of form they are in. They are consistent in their team and how they play.

“Going to St. Andrews makes no difference to us. We are just going to another ground for another game. It’s a good pitch and Coventry like to pass the ball but going there makes no difference to us.”

Sam also provided a brief update on Town central-defender Aaron Pierre who is set to be out on the side-lines for up to five weeks. He said: “We will be without Aaron Pierre for this one, so he will be a miss. Josh Vela got wrongly sent off in the last game but we can’t appeal, as it’s two yellows. We just have to get ready and go again.”
