Brad Walker reflects on Town's first round Emirates FA Cup win over Cambridge United.

Shrewsbury Town’s Emirates FA Cup journey got off to the perfect start with Sam Ricketts’ men securing a win over Cambridge United.

Long-distance goals from Charlie Daniels and Brad Walker secured Town a deserved win as Salop booked a spot in the second round of the competition.

Walker was delighted his team secured the win and was pleased to have contributed a goal towards the Shrews’ victory.

On the result and the goals:

“In the first-half we had a lot of chances but didn’t take any. Two great strikes won us the game in the second-half – we are buzzing to be through to the next round.

“We’ve seen the goals Charlie can score. He picked the ball up in a dangerous area and it was a great strike into the bottom corner. For my goal, I just thought I would hit it and it went right in the top corner.

“Credit to Cambridge, they’re flying high in League Two. They gave us a good test but we stood firm and kept the door shut. We’ve been desperate for a win like that. “

On the clean sheet:

“I think the clean sheet is the most important thing from the result. There have been games where we’ve been awful defensively. Last year we were very solid but this year we have leaked goals.

“Hopefully we can take this win into the week coming up. I thought we did well as a back three/five and we kept the door shut, which is the main thing. Cambridge were no pushover and I thought we did really well.

“We can only go upwards really so it’s down to ourselves to get results and move forward in the league as well."

On Town’s FA Cup history:

“It’s a great competition for the Club and everyone involved. Hopefully we can get through the next round and draw another big team in the third round - it would be great for the Club.”
