David Longwell on Town's U18's loss to Preston North End

9 November 2020

David Longwell reflects on Town's 2-1 Academy loss to Preston North End.

Shrewsbury Town's under-18's were unable to continue their positive start to the season as the young Shrews lost out to Preston North End.

Despite Lewis Duberry netting for Salop, David Longwell's team couldn't secure any points and left Preston with a 2-1 loss.

David Longwell was disappointed with the result and feels Town need to be more clinical in the final-third.

"It was a tough game for the lads following the Walsall game in the FA Youth Cup. We expected a tough test and we lost 2-1. We lost a goal within 10 minutes which is disappointing.

"We managed to get a goal back in the second-half from a free-kick. There were chances in the game and Preston took theirs. We didn't unfortunately, so we lost the game.

"We created chances in the game and there were aspects that made me think we deserved a draw. It could have gone either way. We don't have a game this weekend so we will be playing friendly.

"That gives us a chance to look at a few things again. On Saturday, we gave everybody a game who didn't play during the week. We want to make sure everyone gets games. We will look at a few things and tinker about with the team."
