Shaun Whalley hits the double century

26 November 2020

Salop forward Shaun Whalley achieves 200 appearances for the Shrews.

Since joining Shrewsbury Town from Luton Town in 2015, Shaun Whalley has achieved 200 appearances for the Shrews in all competitions.

The forward has been a favoutie at the Montgomery Waters Meadow since joining the Club on a free transfer from Kenilworth Road. Whalley made his first start for the Club on 28th December 2015 and scored a late winning goal in a 2–1 away victory over Crewe Alexandra.

The winger admits he's loved his time with Town and hopes to achieve further milestones in blue and amber at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

"I am very proud to have reach 200 appearances and I still feel like I've got a lot of appearances left in me," said Town's number seven. "I love it here and I get on really well with everybody. The fans seem to like me so it's the perfect club for me.

"Having some of the fans back in the stadium is absolutely brilliant and it will be good for us. It will be brilliant having them back when we play against one of my former clubs in Accrington. My son has the Shrewsbury kit and he's a Shrewsbury fan like myself."

"I don't remember too much from when I first came to Shrewsbury. Micky Mellon was the manager and I got friendly with Mat Sadler pretty early on. Me and my family moved to Bayston Hill from Luton so it was a big change, but I remember feeling settled in straight away."

Town CEO Brian Caldwell is delighted Whalley has reached the 200 mark and recognises the impact the winger has made at Shrewsbury Town during the last five years.

"Shaun has been brilliant since he came to the Club. He's a Town favourite and that's down to his hard work on and off the pitch. Everyone would agree, he's an exciting player to watch and we are all very proud of Shaun reaching this accolade.

"Shaun has always given 100% for the Club every time he's pulled on a Town shirt and we must recognise his loyalty in staying at the Montgomery Waters Meadow for so long - it's rare you see that in modern football. He's been instrumental in helping Town achieve some memorable wins over the years and we hope that continues for as long as possible."

All at Shrewsbury Town would like to congratulate Shaun on reaching 200 appearances for the Shrews.
