U18 Match report: Shrewsbury Town 0 Walsall 4

4 November 2020

Shrewsbury Town exit the FA Youth Cup.

Shrewsbury Town's U18's FA Youth Cup journey came to an early end this evening due to a 4-0 loss against Walsall.

The young Walsall side started the game brightly and made pressure count with a fifth-minute goal. Jayden Campbell bravely knocked the ball over Town’s on-rushing keeper to put his team in the lead.

Liam Thomas came inches away from pulling Town back onto level terms. The forward dribbled into the Saddlers’ box but narrowly missed the target with his cross-goal shot.

The away side came close to doubling their lead right on the stroke of half-time. Some tidy play allowed a Saddlers forward space in the box but his shot glided well over the bar.

Walsall continued on from their strong first period and secured another goal deep in the second-half. In the 66th minute, tricky feet from the Walsall forward allowed the striker a clear shot at goal and he made Town pay.

Town’s half got worse just 60 seconds later. Walsall’s number 10 left off a long-range shot that nestled in the Town net to make the sore 3-0.

A fourth went in for the away side with three minutes left on the clock. A powerful shot from just inside the box hit the roof of the net as the Saddlers secured a 4-0 win away from home to earn a spot in the next round of the FA Youth Cup.
