David Longwell reflects on Town's 3-1 academy loss against Blackpool.

Academy manager David Longwell gave his thoughts after Town's 3-1 loss against Blackpool on Saturday.

Town missed the chance to take the top spot as they suffered just their second defeat of the season against Blackpool.

On the performance and result:

“The performance was good and we just lost two goals from mistakes in the first 10 minutes of the game. All they did was play long balls and for us, we are not used to this style- especially at the development level. We had to learn to adjust straight away because the long balls caught us out.

“To be fair to the boys, we worked the ball well and were able to get back into the game. On a fair reflection, I think we’d have won the game but we must just work on our chance taking. In the second-half, we dominated and they just broke and scored.

On getting back to winning ways:

“We played Rochdale not long ago and we won - but I wasn’t happy with the performance on that day. So today, even though we’ve lost the game, I was happy with the lads and I feel if we keep performing in that way, we will be in and around the top of the table come the end of the season.

“We had a fair amount of players out like Louis Lloyd and Jacob Bell so the squad wasn’t really balanced going into the game but the good side to that is we got Louis Dubbery and Nigel Aris back who have missed three or four weeks so that’s a boost for us. You can’t forget that it’s only our second loss in the league all season but it’s crucial that we bounce back next week against Tranmere and I trust in these lads to go there and get another three points.”
