Getting to know Deyan Iliev

Get to know new Town goalkeeper Deyan Iliev.

Shrewsbury Town Football Club were delighted to welcome the loan signing of Deyan Iliev earlier this week.

The goalkeeper joins the club on a short-term loan deal until the end of January from Arsenal.

The Macedonian was pleased to have joined the club and is looking forward to working with his new team.

On joining the club:

“I am very happy to be joining Shrewsbury. It took a while to get done but I am happy to join. I am looking forward to meeting the lads and giving my best for the club.

“My goals are to give my best to the club and the team. I will try my best to bring the best possible results. Game-time is really important for confidence, it helps you step forward and grow.

“My first loan was in Slovakia. I was there for six months and it was good. I played around 18 games. Playing week-in-week-out builds confidence. Playing first-team football gives you that responsibility.”

On developing with Arsenal:

“The coaching at Arsenal has been great. I have been there since I was 17. I have come through a lot of different coaches and learned a lot. Hopefully that experience will help me in the future. The most important thing for me is winning. If clean sheets come, that would be great as well.

“Shrewsbury is a good club. I spoke to Arsenal when the offer came. I have also spoken to a few friends of mine who have played in League One. They have given me good advice. Shrewsbury is a good club and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
