Match preview: Fleetwood Town

26 October 2020

Take a closer look at Fleetwood Town ahead of the Shrews next Sky Bet League One fixture.

After a couple of home defeats, Town move swiftly on to Tuesday night - an away game at Fleetwood Town in Sky Bet League One. Currently occupying 12th position, Fleetwood have ten points from eight games and have played one more game than Salop.

Their first eight games of the season resulted in four wins and four defeats, in that order. Only one of those four wins was in the league whilst three of their defeats were league games, meaning they only managed three points from their first four games.

Their cup exploits went a little better, a win at Carlisle in the Football League Trophy was followed by a 3-2 home win to Wigan in the Carabao Cup which booked them a money-spinning draw at home to Premier League leaders Everton.

Despite scoring twice, Fleetwood eventually lost 5-2 to Everton with goals from Richarlison (2), Alex Iwobi, Bernard, and Moise Kean.

Following their four defeats, results became a little more mixed with two wins, a draw, and a defeat in their last four games. Their last game saw them beat Gillingham 2-0 away in Sky Bet League One, their second clean sheet in their last three games.

Top Scorers (cup goals in brackets)

Assists

So far, all Fleetwood's assists have fallen to different players so there are several with one assist each.

Goals

Fleetwood seem to start slowly with just two goals scored in the first half of games this season. They certainly make up for it in the second half with eight goals scored, half of which were scored in away games. They've conceded eight League goals in total, three in the first half and five in the second.  Of those eight goals, six were scored at home, with four of those occurring in the second half.

Clean Sheets.

In Sky Bet League One, the Cod Army have just two clean sheets but they're both from their last three league games, so they look to be improving. They also managed a clean sheet against Aston Villa in the EFL Trophy, which makes it three clean sheets in their last five games, two of them at home.

Discipline

No Fleetwood player so far has received a red card and they've only been given nine yellow cards, 3rd lowest in Sky Bet League One.

Referee

Robert Madley from West Yorkshire. Games this season: 5. Yellow cards: 17. Red cards: 0.
