Sam Ricketts on Town's clash with Gillingham

Sam Ricketts previews Town's Sky Bet League One tie with Gillingham.

Shrewsbury Town Football Club welcome Gillingham to the Montgomery Waters Meadow this weekend for Town’s next Sky Bet League One fixture.

Town will be looking to take all three points away the Gills after securing a 1-1 draw away from home against Plymouth Argyle last time out.

Sam Ricketts is looking forward to the tie as the Salop preparations ramp up ahead game-day.

On the preparations:

“We have been continuing on what we normally work on leading up to this game. We always work on things we want to improve on and our style. Hopefully we can get a few of the previously injured lads back as well.

“A full week gives us more time to train and prepare. It gives us more time to work on things. We try to fill the week with things that will make us improve."

On Gillingham:

“They had a good win against Blackpool last weekend so we know it’s not going to be easy. They work incredibly hard and don’t give you a second of peace really - as Blackpool found out.

“They have a manager who knows the league well and knows how to get a team performing. We prepare for every game the same way. Every team has good elements and bad elements so we will try to identify those.

“We will work on us and worry about what we can do. We want to control the game whilst taking into account what the opposition can do as well.

“They have Jordan one side and Dominic the other. They have a number of threats. Dominic brings that Championship level for them having been at Blackburn last year.

“Jordan has performed well at numerous levels as well so they definitely have huge threats in the forward line. It has shown with their goals so far. We have to plan for the ‘what-ifs’ as much as you can.

“We are looking forward to another game. The players are eager to play another game. They are in a good place and performances have been very good and encouraging – we want to continue that.”
