Sam Ricketts reflects on Town's narrow loss against Bristol Rovers.
Shrewsbury Town were unable to secure three this evening after losing out narrowly to Bristol Rovers.
The away side managed to take the lead in the first-half and held on until the end despite a dominant performance from Salop.
Town’s Manager, Sam Ricketts, was disappointed with the result but was encouraged by the Salop performance.
On the result and performance:
“I thought the performance was excellent. We dominated the game and had 66% possession, over 500 passes, and controlled the ball. We had a goal wrongly disallowed as well. He hit the post, we had other chances and had three balls flash across the six-yard box. We had one cleared off the line. As a performance, you can’t ask for much more.
“The control, the play, and movement were outstanding. We played well and created chances. I thought the team played very, very well. The front three combined well. Like I said, it's quite unbelievable that we didn’t score tonight. We could have scored four or five quite comfortably. It was frustrating that we couldn’t put the ball into the back of the net.
“We need to do more of the same because eventually those chances will go in and you will score goals. In terms of chances created, today was very good.”
On Scott Golbourne and the left-back spot:
“Scott has gone to hospital as he was struggling to breathe a little bit. We firstly want to make sure he is ok and then we will evaluate the severity of the injury.
“It’s disappointing when anyone gets injured, especially going into this busy period. With the run of games we are going into you want as many people ready as possible.
“Unfortunately, Scott looks like he’s going to be out. Josh Vela slotted in there and was excellent. He brought a real level of composure and service from that position.”
