Sam Ricketts post Rochdale

24 October 2020

Sam Ricketts reflects on Town's loss to Rochdale.

Shrewsbury Town were unable to secure a win against Rochdale this weekend as the away side took home a 1-2 win.

Despite Salop pulling a goal back in the first-half, Dale held on to the one-goal advantage to take all three points.

Town’s Manager, Sam Ricketts, was disappointed with the result and acknowledges his team needs to convert chances in the final third.

On the result:

“We dominated the game in the opposition's half. We’ve had 20 attempts at goal and could only score one – that is the problem. We are giving teams cheap goals as well. Most of the performance was good, it’s just doing better in both boxes that we’re missing.

“We aren’t doing an awful lot wrong. We are a very, very good side in many ways but we have to improve. We need to turn all of the possession and shots on target into goals and points.

“We had another 20 shots today, we need to keep going and turn the screw. We need to do better at both ends. We need to keep scores down against us and put the ball in the back of the net at the other consistently. You can’t keep creating this many chances and not scoring.

“We got caught with a sucker-punch from two long balls. We need to win the first contact. We are extremely disappointed with the goals conceded – that wasn’t good enough.”
