Matija Sarkic joins the Blue Amber Army

2 September 2020

Shrewsbury Town is pleased to announce the signing of Matija Sarkic on a season-long loan from Wolves.

The Montenegro international joins Town from Wolves having recently signed for the club earlier in the Summer. Wolves made it clear when Matija signed that they were keen for him to go back out on loan to help his development.

The 23-year-old, who was born in England and raised in Belgium, was on Villa’s books for five years and spent four separate loan spells away to aid his development, with last season’s stint at Livingston the most successful.

Sarkic made 18 appearances in the Scottish Premiership and League Cup, keeping seven clean sheets along the way, including on his league debut against Celtic last October.

The following month the stopper was rewarded with his first international cap, again keeping a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory over Belarus.

Matija is currently away on international duty but will join up with the Town squad next week.

Manager, Sam Ricketts said: "He's a very good, young keeper who did really well last year at Livingston. We're delighted to have him here at the club. He's a really good prospect, Brian Jensen and myself are really looking forward to working with him and he's a great addition to the team."
