Sam Ricketts reacts to Town's draw with Plymouth Argyle

Sam Ricketts reflects on Town's 1-1 draw at Home Park.

Shrewsbury Town Football Club earned a point on the road this weekend with 1-1 draw against Plymouth Argyle.

Despite netting first through Josh Vela, Town were unable to leave Home Paek with all three points.

Sam Ricketts was pleased his team managed to secure a point but feels there is more to come from his team.

On the performance:

“I thought we were in control of the game in the first 20 minutes, I thought we were outstanding. We pinned them in and moved the ball about really well. They got back into the game and we struggled for rhythm in the second-half - we just got caught really.

“Ultimately, it’s a good point. We wanted all three but this is a hard place to come. They have a great home record as Blackpool found out in their last game. Coming away from here with something isn’t easy.

“We are young as a team in terms of what we are trying to do. The first 20 minutes was outstanding and we want to reach that level as much as we can. If we can, we will be some force.”

On Josh Vela’s goal:

“Josh has been desperate to get on the score sheet. He’s been playing well, sometimes going under the radar with the work he does, so I’m delighted he got his goal today. It’s just a shame we couldn’t go on and get a few more.

“We wanted to inject a little bit of life into the game after that. Matija got injured and that reduces your subs straight away. We were keen to get Ollie Norburn on the pitch and he made a good impact.

“We also wanted to see how much we could get out of Leon. He hasn’t done pre-season but we saw some good glimpses from him. Ideally, I would have had another sub left to inject some energy and pace into the game.

“We had more than enough good situations to go on and really hurt Plymouth. I think we let them off a couple of times. Little things didn’t quite go for us.”
