Scott Golbourne previews Northampton Town

Scott Golbourne previews Town's first home fixture with Northampton Town.

The Shrews welcome Northampton Town to the Montgomery Waters Meadow this Saturday with a small number of fans in attendance as part of the EFL pilot scheme.

Town's left-back, Scott Golbourne, feels the team will certainly benefit from the fan's support as they look to register their first league win of the season.

On the prospect of having fans back:

“It’s a big boost for the team, the games have been quite flat without fans. Having said that, the games against Middlesbrough and Portsmouth did actually suit us as the away team. Especially when you go to places with big fan bases and full stadiums.

“Having the fans gives you that extra boost of adrenaline late in the game and just gives you that boost as the fatigue begins to set in. It will definitely be different with 1000 fans. It’s not something I have experienced at the Meadow so I can’t really tell you how it will feel out there compared to a full crowd”.

On the challenge of Northampton:

“I watched some clips of them yesterday. They are direct, aggressive, and quite all-action so it will be another good challenge for us. We need to impose ourselves a little bit more this season and impose our style of play on our opponents - especially at home.

“Playing Saturday, Tuesday is tough. Anyone who plays football knows that. It’s a challenge to recover in that time so we have to make sure we start quickly, but as long as we train well over the next two days and take care in our recovery, we will be ok.

On how the team feel going into two games over the next five days:

“As a team, we have been back together for a while now so I think we are in a good position, we did some work during the lockdown as well which meant we came back in good shape.

“We hit the ground running in pre-season which went really well. It was tough but yeah, I think we have really benefited from that. On a personal note, I feel really good, a couple of games in and I feel sharp and fit and that’s the same for the rest of the squad really”.

On the new style and system:

“I really enjoy the new system and new style of play. It certainly suits the type of players we have; it will get the most out of us that’s for sure. For me, I really enjoy being in the back of a left four. It suites me having someone in front of me and being able to play combination football so it’s definitely enjoyable”.
