Matthew Pennington reflects on Town's win over Blackpool

25 April 2021

Matthew Pennington reflects on Town's Sky Bet League One win over Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.

Shrewsbury Town's trip to the coast ended with Salop earning all three points over Neil Critchley's in-form Blackpool.

Matthew Pennington's second-half goal was the difference between the two teams as Salop left Bloomfield Road with all three points and a clean sheet.

Town defender Matthew Pennington was delighted to have notched a goal for Town but was pleased Salop secured an important result.

On the result:

“It's always better when you get a win and it secures safety. It was important we got the win today after the last few results.

“We stuck to the game plan really well today, limited them to very few chances and scored a goal from a set-piece - we played really well and everyone was on it today.

“As a defender you always want to keep a clean sheet. I thought we did a really good job to snuff them out and they are a good side. I was really pleased with the team’s performance today."

On his first goal for the club:

“I have been trying to add that to my game over the last few games. I’ve been getting on the end of things and working on that, and the ball was great from Chappy today and I was in the right place to nod it in.

“I’ve had a lot of first contacts recently that goal was definitely coming. The last one was for Ipswich a couple of years ago at Birmingham so it was nice to get one today."
