Aaron Pierre reflects on Town's defeat in Portsmouth

18 August 2021

Aaron Pierre reflects on Town's narrow Sky Bet League One away loss against Portsmouth.

Shrewsbury Town's evening in Portsmouth ended with the Shrews leaving Fratton Park after a narrow 1-0 loss.

An early goal from Ryan Tunnicliffe was the difference between the two sides as Pompey secured all three points at home.

Town defender Aaron Pierre was left frustrated with the result but felt the Shrews can take a number of positives from the fixture.

On the result:

"It's very disappointing that we lost the game because we put Portsmouth under a lot of pressure - especially in the second-half. Their 'keeper made a great save from my header and we had other chances. We all felt like we deserved something from the game.

"Conceding early on is never good but it does give you a lot of time to redeem yourself and get back into the game. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case today. In the next game, we need to take advantage of our pressure.

"We competed through the full 90 minutes. We had a number of chances on their goal. We went toe-to-toe with them but whoever scores wins the game. We need to fine-tune our performances and take our chances.

"With my chance, I thought it was going in. I saw the goalkeeper's hands just manage to parry the ball away. Fair play to him but I was fuming because it would have been the equaliser.
