David Longwell previews Town's Carabao Cup fixture with Lincoln City

David Longwell previews Town's Carabao Cup home fixture with Lincoln City.

Shrewsbury Town's Carabao Cup journey begins tomorrow evening as Steve Cotterill's men welcome Lincoln City to Shropshire for a 7:45 pm kick-off.

Town will welcome Michael Appleton's men to Montgomery Waters Meadow off the back of the Imps' 1-1 draw with Gillingham as both teams look to compete for a spot in the next round of the competition.

Town First-Team Coach David Longwell expects a stern test from the away side but hopes to see a continuation of Town's second-half performance against Burton Albion in the coming fixture.

On fixture preparation:

"It is a quick turn-around from Saturday. The lads were back in this morning, we checked on how they were, and then we went into preparations for tomorrow with the manager. We've looked at the opposition and looked at how we can possibly exploit them.

"Lincoln will be similar to last season, they like to build out from the back. Getting to the Play-Off Final last year shows how good they can be - we have to be prepared for that. Michael has done a fantastic job since he's been there.

"We know it's going to be a really hard test tomorrow night but we have to match them and try to get the result. Although the result on Saturday was disappointing, the lads were brilliant in the second half of the match - we threw everything at them but just couldn't get that goal."

On having the fans back:

"Football is completely different without them there. All of the players have missed having the fans at the games. You could feel the excitement building during the warm-ups. It makes such a difference and the lads were desperate to get out there to try and get the fans signing.

"Our fans are excellent, they always support the team. The atmosphere was brilliant on Saturday, and we were just disappointed that we didn't get the points on the board for them."
