Elliott Bennett reflects on Town's victory over Lincoln City

Elliott Bennett reflects on Town's penalty shoot-out win over Lincoln City in Round One of the Carabao Cup.

Shrewsbury Town secured a spot in the next round of the Carabao Cup following a four-goal thriller and a penalty shoot-out triumph over Lincoln City.

Despite going 2-0 down against Michael Appleton's Imps, Dan Udoh's brace coming off the bench sent the tie into a penalty shoot-out in which Town came out victorious.

Town's vice-captain Elliott Bennett was pleased to see Town progress into the next round and was encouraged to see his team's character shine through against the Imps.

On the result:

"A penalty shoot-out wasn't how we wanted to go through but football is all about winning games. A lot of the performance wasn't where we wanted it to be but we are glad to be progressing into the next round.

"After going two goals down, we showed great character to get back into the game. Young Tom Bloxham then sticks away the final penalty to see us through.

"Dan came off the bench and those two goals will give him the world of confidence - hopefully he can take that into the league now. It's always nice to win games, no matter who you play and Lincoln are a good footballing side. Lincoln did cause us problems in the first-half but we got to grips with them in the end.

"It's always good to see young players come through and doing well. Tom came through the academy here and what a story it is for him. Coming on and putting away the winning penalty is what dreams are made of."
