Luke Leahy previews Town's clash with Gillingham

26 August 2021

Luke Leahy previews Town's Sky Bet League One home fixture with Gillingham.

Shrewsbury Town's return to league action sees Steve Cotterill's men welcome Gillingham to Montgomery Waters Meadow.

The Shrews will be looking to earn the first three points of the season with the visit of Steve Evans' men as his team make the 400-mile round trip to Shropshire.

Luke Leahy is looking forward to taking on the Kent side and hopes to see Town earn a valuable three points.

On the fixture:

"It's still early days in the season but we know Gillingham are a tough outfit to play against and they always have been under Steve Evans. They will be physical, quite direct and that's something we have to be ready for. Steve Evans is a good manager and it will be a tough game.

"We know what Gillingham are about and they find a way to get good results. It might not be everyone's cup of tea in the way they play but they get results at the end of the day - hopefully this Saturday they don't. I have enjoyed playing in different positions this season and I feel quite comfortable in those areas.

"In games, we are having most of the possession and some good shots. If we can turn some of that possession into attacks or chances, we will start to score goals. If we keep the ball and pass it well when we win, you're looking at and reflecting on a strong performance. We are doing some of those things now but hopefully we can turn that into results.

"I am feeling fresh and ready to go for the game on the weekend. League One is always Saturday Tuesday games but we are used to that. We will recover well and make sure we are ready to go again. It's always good to have a game quickly after losing last time out."
