Luke Leahy reflects on Town's loss against Burton Albion

Luke Leahy reflects on Town's Sky Bet League One home loss against Burton Albion.

Shrewsbury Town's opening fixture of the 2021/22 campaign came to an end with Burton Albion securing a narrow one-goal win.

Despite Town troubling the away side continually in the second-half, Jimmy Floyd Hassellbaink's men stood firm to see out the lead.

Despite an all-around solid performance from Town defender Luke Leahy, the Salop number three was left frustrated at the final whistle.

On the result:

"On the second-half performance, we probably deserved something from the game. It's the first game of the season, there's always a lot of tension. If we start the game on Tuesday how we finished this one, we'll be ok. We knew Burton were capable from set-pieces and the ball ultimately ended up in our net.

"We have to take the positives from the game and go again on Tuesday. We were a lot fitter than Burton as the game went on and we put them on the back foot. On another day, at least one of our chances goes in and we're standing here talking about a different outcome. We need to take the positives from the game and go again.

"Five or six times, Burton put their bodies on the line to get the block in - credit to them. We'll be hurting tonight but we will go again."

On making his Salop debut:

"I really enjoyed it. There is a good feel around the place and I am glad it's out of the way. I am a Shrewsbury Town player now and I hope we have a successful season. Everyone had a smile on their face with our stadium full of supporters. It was a real privilege to play today and I hope we have that atmosphere all season."
