Sam Cosgrove reflects on Town's win over Gillingham

Sam Cosgrove reflects on Town's 2-1 comeback victory over visitors Gillingham.

Shrewsbury Town's return to Sky Bet League One action coincided with a return to winning ways as Steve Cotterill's men staged a comeback against visitors Gillingham.

Tom Bloxham and Sam Cosgrove were the duo on hand to notch the goals as Town secured the first three points of the season.

Sam Cosgrove was pleased to have notched his first Salop goal but was thrilled Town managed to secure all three points.

On the fixture:

"The three points were the least we deserved, to be honest. We were the better team throughout the game. We were disappointed to go down to a sloppy goal early on. Credit to the boys, despite some disappointing results, the character has remained the same if not grown stronger.

"You saw our determination as soon we went one down. We created chances, passed the ball well, and got crosses in the box. We just couldn't get that final bit of quality. As soon as Bloco scored that worldy overhead kick, the game was only going one way. It was a great finish and we needed that. Credit to him, he's pulled off a great finish.

"My goal has been a long time coming. It's not been through a lack of trying, I've not had game time over the last 12 months. I was lucky that the manager brought me in and given me this opportunity. This win is massive. It has been a tough start to the season but that hasn't been because of a lack of effort. We are a confident bunch and we work as hard as we can. We just needed that one result to kick-start us."
