Steve Cotterill reflects on Town's narrow loss against Crewe Alexandra in the Papa John's Trophy.
Shrewsbury Town's opening fixture of the Papa John's Trophy group stage came to an end with Crewe Alexandra securing a late win in Shropshire.
Ben Knight's 90th-minute winner was the difference between the two sides as David Artell's men secured the latch-ditch win.
Town's Manager Steve Cotterill was disappointed with the result and felt his changed team could have done more to impress.
On the result:
"I thought the players looked really flat and never really got going in the game. We had a couple of moments in the second half but no more than that. The game was petering out towards a 0-0. It was looking like it was going to end with penalties. I thought they were extremely flat after the weekend in this fixture.
"I don't think there can be too many lads knocking on my door at the moment telling me they should be in the team. One of the things I've told the lads is that this performance has reinforced that I've been picking the right team. It didn't look like many of them were busting their gut to get into the starting 11 I'm afraid."
Transfer window update:
"There is nothing active at this moment. We have been on the phone constantly since Saturday night, nearly every hour. This morning, we envisaged definitely two coming through the door. One decided he isn't going to come because he doesn't believe he would get in the team.
"There is also another that we've been chasing for quite a while now but it looks like we are going to run out of time. We still have a couple of hours but I don't think it will be completed in that time. I don't know if we are being messed about, but it was someone we've been interested in for a little while."
