Steve Cotterill post Rochdale AFC

24 August 2021

Steve Cotterill reflects on Town's 2-0 loss in Round Two of the Carabao Cup.

Shrewsbury Town's Carabao Cup journey came to an end with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Rochdale AFC.

Two goals in the second-half of the competition were the difference between the two sides as the Dale booked their slot in Round Three of the competition.

Town's Manager was disappointed with the final result and hopes to see Town's results take a positive turn in the coming games.

On the result:

"It was a tough night and we've had a few of those recently, things aren't dropping for us at the moment. We had a bright start and did ok. The confidence seems to dip a little bit when we don't score and then it looks like the lads arent doing enough when their confidence is short.

"It hasn't been a very good start to the season and that has been tough for the lads. I feel for them because they're all honest lads - it's tough for them at the moment. They need to stick together and carry on doing the work we're doing and hope things change for us.

"I haven't actually seen the penalty back to know if it was in the box or not. A couple of the lads have suggested it was outside the box. Even if it was, Ethan was on the cover so he wasn't the last man. I need to look at it and we will make a decision based on that regarding an appeal.

"That red card changes the game and makes it harder in an already tough game anyway - Rochdale are a good team. It feels like a missed opportunity because we could have got into the next round and potentially drawn a big team which everybody wanted."
