Steve Cotterill previews Town's fixture with Gillingham

26 August 2021

Steve Cotterill previews Town's Sky Bet League One home fixture with Gillingham.

Shrewsbury Town's return to league action sees Steve Cotterill's men welcome Gillingham to Montgomery Waters Meadow.

The Shrews will be looking to earn the first three points of the season with the visit of Steve Evans' men as his team make the 400-mile round trip to Shropshire.

Town's Manager expects a stern test from the away side but hopes to see Town put in a positive performance against the Gills.

On the fixture:

"We have seen the same things from Gillingham this season as we've always seen from them. I've known Steve Evans for a long time and he's done a good job there. They will be direct and they are always tough to play against. We have to make sure we impose our game on the fixture in order to put them off theirs.

"The lads have trained the same as always. Today was a lighter session for the lads because we've had a lot of games in a short space of time. We haven't had a lot of training time for the starters, but the other lads trained for longer this morning. We want to get people back up to speed and keep them there.

"There is a progression with a couple of the injuries. With Ryan Boeman and David Davis, we don't know if they will be ready for the weekend but we will look at that again tomorrow - 24 hours is a long time in this game.

"If we will keep on working and doing the right things in training, the goals and results will drop for us. When the lads start scoring goals, they will be different players in other aspects of their game. Their hold-up play will be better, their passing will be better and it will all come together."
