Steve Cotterill previews Town's trip to Portsmouth

16 August 2021

Steve Cotterill previews Town's Sky Bet League One away fixture against Portsmouth.

Shrewsbury Town are back on the road tomorrow evening as Steve Cotterill's team take on Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

Salop will be looking to secure the first three points of the 2021/22 Sky Bet League One campaign with the visit down south.

Town's manager expects a stern test from the home side but hopes to see Town bring three points back to Montgomery Warters Meadow.

On the fixture:

"They are a new squad and they have a lot of Championship experience in there. They've had a good start to the season but we don't read too much into that. I would rather have had the start Portsmouth have had but we are a new team and these things can take time.

"We reviewed the game on Saturday this morning and this evening we will be tapping on Portsmouth. The work we do on the grass today will be Portsmouth-specific. With Ryan Bowman and Shaun Whalley, we will assess the pair this morning and go from there.

On Sam Cosgrove's debut:

"I thought he did very well when he came on. He looked very lively and gives us something different from what we already had. It was a difficult scenario for him to come into but I thought he worked very well for his first outing. That was his first game of the season because he hasn't played any football."
